Penrite Honda Racing has announced that standout international talent Senna Agius will join the outfit for the final two rounds of the 2022 Mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK).

Agius, 17, competed in his fourth fill-in appearance for the Elf Marc VDS Racing team last weekend at Valencia, scoring an impressive P9 finish at the final round of this year’s Moto2 World Championship.

The Australian spent the majority of his season competing in the European Moto2 Championship with Promo Racing, finishing second in the title race with nine podiums and two race wins. He also competed in the opening round of this year’s ASBK in Supersport, clean sweeping at Phillip Island before venturing overseas.

“I’m very excited to end my year of racing with the last two rounds of ASBK with Penrite Honda,” Agius explained. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity because I have looked up to the factory Honda team since I was little.

“I also can’t wait to race a Superbike, the CBR Fireblade is such a nice bike, I’ve not had a lot of time on one so I’m really looking forward to learning from Troy [Herfoss] and the team.”

“Being overseas has helped me develop a lot as a rider and a person, I’ve learnt a lot this year, especially doing the four rounds in the world championship (Moto2) and it really helped me mentally prepare for taking on new situations, how to handle pressures and keep my focus on the job.

“Heading back to Australia and working with the team, I see it as a huge opportunity and don’t have any expectations of myself going into it, apart from learning as much as I can, I want to keep progressing with myself and the bike and I’m sure with that mentality we can do a nice job.”

Round six of 2022 ASBK on 18-20 November will see Agius make his Superbike debut, joining Troy Herfoss in the squad’s premier class effort also at The Bend’s season finale one week later.
