Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) rookie Remy Gardner is ‘feeling good with everything’ after making positive progress across the two-day test at Jerez.

Spending a single year in MotoGP with Tech3 KTM Factory Racing, Gardner signed with GYTR GRT Yamaha and makes the switch to WorldSBK for 2023, completing his first dry laps onboard the R1 this week in Spain.

“I’m quite happy with the progress we made throughout the two days, we’re working well,” Gardner explained. “I’m trying to understand the tyres, the bike, and I’m feeling good with everything. I’m enjoying a lot the time spent here in Jerez and I’m already looking forward to Portimao, where I’m confident we can find some more improvements and be faster.”

With many things to adapt to ahead of the upcoming season, Gardner completed over 160 laps across the two days at Jerez and ultimately finished 10th fastest. His best time of 1m39.464s was under 1.2s from leader Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx), and less than two-tenths from his teammate Dominique Aegerter in P6.

“The new tyres I think at the moment is the biggest thing for me to understand how much confidence the front tyre can give, how much support you have as well,” Gardner added. “It was good to just understand what I need to adapt and change, and I have some bad habits from last year that I’m trying to kick. We all want to be there at the top the first day, but, you know, without doing something stupid, it’s just step by step and I think that’s the correct way.

“I just need to ride easier, more fluid. Last year, I had to ride like an animal on every single corner to go fast, and the tyres are very different as well. It’s good to let it flow a bit more. The breaking is kind of similar, you can push on it so hard and you can feel where it’s at which is nice. It’s a different bike, so yeah we just try to experiment and look at data and then find our direction. We made a few changes, but nothing really crazy.”
