Three-time Mi-Bike Australian Superbike champion Glenn Allerton scored a solid P3 overall at Morgan Park and is ‘over the moon’ with the result at a circuit that historically hasn’t been his strongest.

Entering the fifth round of the 2023 ASBK season, Allerton had never scored a top-three race finish at the Warwick-based venue, despite finishing third overall in 2016 with 4-4 results.

He outlined on Friday a new mindset he adopted towards the circuit, and the number 14 managed to qualify P6 with a 1m12.755s despite an oil leak from his machine that brought out the red flags in Q1.

Allerton slotted into P4 during the early stages of race one and with five laps to go he capitalised on a mistake from Josh Waters (Wickham Freight Lines with K-tech McMartin Racing) to secure P3, later running as high as second in the final race of the weekend before holding off Broc Pearson (DesmoSport Ducati) to complete a 3-3 scorecard at round five.

“To say I’m over the moon is an understatement this weekend,” recalled Allerton. “My expectations were to try to get as many points as possible as this has been a very difficult track for me in the past but to actually be in the battle and right there at the front with Troy [Herfoss] and Mike [Jones] was great.

“The racer in me took over and I wanted more. To come away from the weekend third overall is awesome for our GT Racing team.

“The thing I’m most proud of is how the team reacted during qualifying when we had a small oil leak on the bike. Everybody did the job and got me back on track and able to qualify the bike as best I could and I thank everyone involved. I really can’t wait to get to Phillip Island, and start testing for round six.”

Making the switch to Ohlins from Hidden Valley, Allerton has been a consistent podium threat and he enters round six of the championship at Phillip Island fourth in the 2023 ASBK championship standings.
