'I think we’re in a pretty good place with the bike'.
Australia’s Jason O’Halloran added to his 2023 British Superbike Championship (BSB) podium tally at Cadwell Park with a charge from the second row of the grid to take P3 in race two.
O’Halloran (McAMS Yamaha) posted the fifth fastest time in superpole, just 0.255s from Ryan Vickers (LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha) who set the benchmark with a 1m25.847s.
Cadwell is far from the easiest circuit on the BSB calendar to make a pass on, exaggerated by the speed deficit O’Halloran faces to some of his competitors, and he finished the sprint race in P4, as the top four were covered by just 0.472s.
Biding his time in race two, O’Halloran sat comfortably in the top five before attacking at the end with two moves at the Hairpin to take a strong third place.
Again starting from the second row in race three, the ‘O’Show’ concluded the round with a P6 finish after having to sit up to avoid a mistake from another rider in the closing stages.
“It’s been a good weekend, we’ve had decent pace all weekend and I felt good on the bike,” O’Halloran explained. “It was nice to get a podium in race one and then I finished sixth at the end.
“It’s always difficult when you start on row two here as it’s so, so hard to pass around here. You work so hard to try and get through and then you have to try and close the gap at the end and that burns the tyre up and also burns your energy up.
I’m looking forward to Oulton, I think we’re in a pretty good place with the bike – we rode a similar bike to what we had at Thruxton and it’s worked pretty well so we’re in a good place, so we’ll give it our all.”
O’Halloran is fourth in the standings as the 2023 British Superbike Championship moves to Oulton Park for round nine between 15-17 September. He has eight podiums to his credit in the season to date, four being race wins.
