The Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP team has called in European Moto2 Championship leader Senna Agius once more to fill-in for Darryn Binder at the Catalunya round of the 2023 Moto2 World Championship this weekend.

Binder fell in the Austrian GP earlier this month, with injuries to his back sustained in the incident meaning he is not yet fit to line-up as the series resumes for its 11th round in Barcelona.

Agius competes for the Liqui Husqvarna Intact GP Junior Team in the European championship and has made two prior fill-in appearances for Binder in the world championship earlier this year, competing at Jerez and Le Mans.

“I’m really thankful for the opportunity that the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP team have given me to replace Darryn again,” Agius told CycleOnline. “I’ve already done two rounds at the beginning of the year with the team, so I’m familiar with the team and the bike. I’m happy the race is at Barcelona this weekend, I have knowledge around the track, so it takes that element of learning the track out of it.

“We just need to start the right way from practice one, get up to speed the best I can and head down for the weekend to try and produce something from the weekend that we can be proud about.

“Big thank you to Husqvarna and all the sponsors for allowing me to come back this weekend and I wish Darryn a speedy recovery.”

Despite a Friday highside at the last round of the European Moto2 Championship forcing him to the sidelines, Agius still leads the series by 20 points, having won all but one of the races he has contested in 2023. His best world championship result to date came at Valencia last year, where he was P9 filling-in at the Marc VDS Racing Team.
