The 2024 MotoGP World Championship grid continues to take shape, with the announcement of Franco Mordibelli’s switch to Prima Pramac Racing made official for next season.

Mordidelli’s move to the outfit was heavily rumoured and he will fill the vacant position of LCR Honda-bound Johann Zarco, while Alex Rins was confirmed to be Italian’s replacement at Monster Energy Yamaha early last month.

The now 28-year-old won the Moto2 World Championship in 2017, and was runner-up in the MotoGP world title race in 2020. Despite two premier-class victories to his credit, Morbidelli has experienced a slump in form throughout much of the 2021 and 2022 seasons, currently struggling with the lack of competitiveness of the Yamaha platform in 2023. He now fills what was arguably one of the most sought-after vacant seats for next season.

“I am very happy that Franco is joining our family for 2024,” said Prima Pramac Racing team principal Paolo Campinoti. “I have an excellent relationship with him, and he has proven to be a champion on many occasions. I am confident that in our team, he will find the right conditions to fight for the positions he deserves.”

Morbidelli, like Jorge Martin, will ride a Ducati Desmosedici GP24 with the team next year, as his next outing in the current season comes this weekend at the grand prix of India.
