Australian racer Cameron Swain impressed at the Yamaha bLU cRU R3 Cup SuperFinale to finish third overall, while Marcus Hamod notched a solid top-five result in race two at Portimao.

With very limited track time on the Portimao circuit prior to qualifying, Swain secured a front-row start in P3 while Hamod posted the sixth-fastest time in the session.

Race one saw Swain finish seventh and Hamod brought down with a quick shifter issue, while a stronger showing for both in race two saw Swain conclude the outing in a P3, with Hamod in fifth.

“I managed to take third overall for the round which makes me so happy,” Swain shared. “I wasn’t very happy with my first race, and made some tweaks to my strategy with the help of the Yamaha bLU cRU team and was able to battle at the front.

“I was saving my moves till the last lap but unfortunately a red flag came out with two laps to go which put a stop to making any more positions but it’s ok! Hopefully me and my teammate Marcus Hamod did Australia proud, by taking third overall in the national placings!”

Hamod added: “Unfortunately in race one I had a mishap with my quick shifter and it went back to third gear mid corner which caused me to crash. But, I am super happy with how the weekend planned out and I am more then ready for the rest of the ASBK season.”

Both Swain and Hamod are key contenders onboard Yamaha R3s in the Mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championship, Swain currently leading the R3 Cup and second in the Supersport 300 category, while Hamod is third in SSP300 and fifth in the R3 Cup.
