A blistering pace from Fermin Aldeguer secured him pole position for the Moto2 World Championship bout at Phillip Island, notching the first-ever 1m31s lap time in the category at the circuit while Ayumu Sasaki will line-up P1 in Moto3.

Aldeguer – who has comfortably topped every Moto2 session so far this weekend – set the timesheets alight during his second run in qualifying two, sealing a dominant pole position with a 1m31.888s.

A credible effort from Aron Canet (Pons Wegow Los40) placed the Spaniard in second, while a positive uplift from last year’s winner Alonso Lopez saw him grab the final spot on the front row.

Joe Robers (Iltrans Racing Team) heads the second row of the grid, while championship leader Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Jake Dixon (Inde GasGas Aspar Team) will line-up in positions five and six, as Sergio Garcia (Pons Wegow Los40), Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team), Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) and Manuel Gonzalez feature inside the top 10.

Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP’s Sasaki rebounded from a tough outing last time out in Indonesia to make it back-to-back Phillip Island pole positions in Moto3.

Sasaki’s benchmark of a 1m36.539s saw him 0.136s clear of Joel Kelso, the CFMoto Racing PruestelGP rider scoring a popular home result of P2 in the qualifying session, as Stefano Nepa (Angeluss MTA Team) rounded out the front row in third.

Mandalika winner Diogo Moreira (MT Helmets – MSI) will line-up in P4, alongside Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team) and Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) on row two.

A 1m37.030s sees Deniz Oncu (Red Bull KTM Ajo) start in seventh, with David Alonso (Gaviota GasGas Aspar Team) – who suffered a fall off the track at turn four – Adrian Fernandez (Leopard Racing) and impressive fill-in Vicente Perez (BOE Motorsports) completing the top 10.
