A points-scoring finish at Le Mans has boosted Moto2 World Championship rookie Senna Agius, the Australian recording his best result of the year at the French round.

The Husqvarna IntactGP entry demonstrated strong form from the beginning of the fifth round, transferring directly through to Q2 before registering a career-best qualifying position of sixth.

Agius maintained a top 10 spot during the opening laps of Sunday’s 22-lap encounter before a mistake saw him make a ‘hard reset’, where he eventually crossed the line in P13 – one position ahead of teammate Darryn Binder.

While the result was his best finish so far in Moto2 this season, the 18-year-old expressed frustration after starting from a promising position.

“Things were going well until about halfway through, but then I made a mistake and had to make a hard reset to again charge and get where I could for the last 10 laps or so,” Agius explained.

“We took home two points, but we went the wrong way in the race. I was quite fast this weekend, but [I] was also missing something at a crucial point and we didn’t really realise that until we were into the 22 laps.

“I also think we took a bit of a tyre gamble that didn’t’ pay off and we need to analyse why. We’re missing some rhythm so we’ll attack Barcelona with some changes.”

Agius’ two championship points have promoted him to 19th in the standings as the series heads to Catalunya, Spain, on 24-26 May for the sixth round of 2024.
