The ShopYamaha R3 Cup is set to make its return to the Mi-bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) for the first time in 2024 at Morgan Park’s fourth round this weekend in Queensland.

The series has been a staple on the ASBK calendar for a number of years, where it would feature at every round that included support categories, although this year the class was reduced to three rounds.

The R3 Cup, a category adopted amongst domestic championships globally, has been incredibly popular for Yamaha-mounted Supersport 300 riders in Australia, who’ve been able to take on double duties amongst both classes.

The Yamaha-supported class has become hugely beneficial for riders in accompanying their Supersport 300 efforts – a category that’s largely filled with family-run teams and youthful, emerging talents – allowing riders to not only double their track time and increase their racing experience, but also an opportunity to lift their potential prize money earnings with over $17,000 on offer over the three rounds this year.

Current Supersport 300 front-runners Valentino Knezovic and Jordan Simpson are amongst the Yamaha R3 Cup entry list for this weekend, with the division to open proceedings as the first session on track at Morgan Park this Friday.

The R3 Cup is also set to feature at One Raceway on 4-6 October in New South Wales, and the ASBK season-finale at The Bend in South Australia, scheduled for 8-10 November.
