Australian Moto3 entry leads laps at Silverstone's 10th round.
A mid-season reset has boosted Joel Kelso as the 2024 Moto3 World Championship returned for round 10 at Silverstone on Sunday, the 21-year-old leading the opening laps on his way to a P7 result.
The youthful Australian was in exceptional form throughout the British grand prix, qualifying on the front row in P3 before putting on an impressive performance in the 15-lap outing, controlling the field on laps one and two as he battled for a podium spot.
Kelso admits he failed to execute his plan on the final lap of what was a chaotic encounter, and ultimately crossed the line in seventh position to earn nine world championship points.
“It was a great race today being able to lead some laps but also fight through the pack on multiple occasions,” Kelso explained. “I had a plan going into the last lap, but just wasn’t able to pull it off. We will go back and look at those last two laps to see where we can improve.”
The BOE Motorsports entry now sits ninth in the championship standings, while compatriot Jacob Roulstone (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) is 14th overall after a P17 result at the British grand prix. MotoGP returns to action for round 11 at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on 16-18 August.
