Race two winner Pearson second as Allerton completes the podium.
Championship leader Josh Waters navigated challenging conditions in Phillip Island’s fifth round of the 2024 Mi-bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) to earn the overall victory, strengthening his points advantage in the process.
A crash on the sighting lap saw a delayed start to the opening encounter, although once the lights went out, it was McMartin Racing’s Waters who led the field with teammate Harrison Voight in tow.
The pair broke away from the field as a four-way battle for fourth unfolded between Cru Halliday (Yamaha Racing Team), Arthur Sissis (Stop and Seal Racing), Glenn Allerton (BMW), and Mike Jones (Yamaha Racing Team).
Voight eventually made the move on Waters for the lead, pressing on to claim a maiden victory by 0.227s over his teammate, while Sissis got the better of the battle for third to secure the final spot on the podium.
Halliday nipped Allerton for fourth, while sixth to 10th was taken out by Jones, Max Stauffer (Penrite Racing SBK), Anthony West (Yamaha), Broc Pearson (DesmoSport Ducati), and John Lytras (Yamaha).
Race two also suffered a delayed start, this time as rain started falling and the race ultimately being declared a wet race. It was short-lived, with the red-flag coming out on lap one after Sissis crashed out and required medical assistance.
The restart saw Voight make an impressive start, but it was Pearson who led the field from turn two with Allerton in tow. Riders tip-toed their way around the circuit as Pearson and Waters eventually broke away from the field.
Waters made a number of attempts for the lead in the closing laps, as Stauffer crashed out on the final lap. In the end, Pearson crossed the line first – his maiden race victory – while settling for a consistent second. West put on an impressive display to complete the outing in third ahead of Cameron Dunker (Penrite Racing SBK) and Paris Hardwick (Motogo Yamaha), while the top 10 was rounded out by Jones, Ryan Yanko (Yamaha), Adam Senior (Yamaha), and Halliday.
Overall, it was Waters from Pearson and Allerton – the McMartin Racing entry extending his championship lead to 28.5 points as the series heads to One Raceway in New South Wales on 4-6 October.
