Middleton scores Supersport 300 win in New South Wales.
Stop and Seal Racing’s Jack Mahaffy has emerged with the Supersport overall victory at One Raceway’s sixth round of the 2024 Mi-bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK), while series leader Jonathan Nahlous strengthened his advantage as one round remains.
The opening encounter saw Mahaffy lead the charge from turn one, but it was his teammate and pole sitter Archie McDonald (Stop and Seal Racing) who would take control on lap two.
The charismatic rider led for several laps until crashing on lap nine, allowing Mahaffy to take the lead and secure the race win. Nahlous finished second ahead of Hayden Nelson (Yamaha), while the top five was rounded out by Olly Simpson (Yamaha) and Tom Bramich (Yamaha).
Positions six through to 10 were completed by Sean Condon (Yamaha), Hunter Ford (Yamaha), Jack Favelle (Yamaha), Glenn Nelson (Stop and Seal Racing) and Marcus Hamod (Honda).
In race two it was McDonald who shot out to the early lead, although this time Mahaffy would pass him in the opening laps to take control of the field. Simpson went down on lap nine, while the closing laps saw McDonald and Mahaffy engage in a thrilling battle, but it was McDonald who got the upper hand as they crossed the line – just 0.073s separating them.
Nelson was third ahead of Nahlous and Condon, followed by Jake Farnsworth (Yamaha), Nelson, Bramich, Brandon Demmery (Kawasaki), and Favelle. Overall, Mahaffy won from Nahlous and Nelson – Nahlous now holding a healthy 40-point lead heading into the season finale.
In the Supersport 300 class, Casey Middleton (Kawasaki) claimed victory from Will Nassif (Yamaha) and Joshua Newman (Kawasaki), while Nassif and Hunter Corney (Yamaha) secured wins in R3 Cup and Oceania Junior Cup respectively.
The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia will host the final round of ASBK on 8-10 November.
