Assorted racer comments following the final round of the season.
The Bend once again played host to the Mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) finale, with the 2024 season coming to an end at the South Australian circuit. We’ve compiled comments from a number of different riders to see how their weekends went for this Reflection feature.
Broc Pearson (DesmoSport Ducati) – Fifth overall:
We’ve made some big steps forward this season as a team and I’m proud that we were able to achieve third in the championship. It was great to tick off so many goals this year which included race podiums, race wins and overall wins. Racing at this level is a team effort, so I can’t thank everyone involved in DesmoSport enough. Ben, Sarah, Ken, Dave, Giulia, Charlie and Troy, thank you for everything you’ve done this season to support me.
Troy Herfoss (DesmoSport Ducati) – Eighth overall:
I came into the weekend looking forward to being back in the ASBK paddock, seeing friends, familiar faces and fans and I had a great weekend doing exactly that. I was looking forward to seeing how much I could get out of our package this weekend, and although I had a race win, I think there’s more for the team to uncover heading into 2025. I came into the season wanting to push myself outside of my comfort zone, try some new things, support my friend, and see if I couldn’t help another young rider in Broc find his feet and I think it’s fair to say that as a team, we’ve achieved those things.
Max Stauffer (Penrite Racing SBK) – Seventh overall:
Not the most ideal weekend, as I hoped for more, but we made a little bit of progress throughout I just need to fix a few things. We finished a great year with the Penrite Racing Superbike team and I cant thank everyone enough for their support, it was unfortunate I couldn’t finish on a high note for the team, but we will re-group and I look forward to what is to come for 2025.
Cameron Dunker (Penrite Racing SBK) – Sixth overall:
It was nice to finish this year and first rookie season in the superbike class on a high with a fourth in race three. We found a lot of time in that last race and I am super happy to end the season like this. I cant thank the team enough for all the opportunities they have given me. Thank you to Penrite and all of our sponsors, its been a great year of learning and I look forward to next year.
Mike Jones (Yamaha Racing Team) – Fourth overall:
I knew coming into the weekend, it would take everything to fall my way to even get close to winning it, but I wasn’t going to die wondering and if I wasn’t going to win it, I was going to make Josh [Waters] earn it. The bike was good all weekend and I felt I had three race wins in me, but it wasn’t to be. The team and I gave it our all and we came up short. Josh rode great all year. He is a fast and experienced rider and made the least amount of mistakes over the seven rounds, so he deserves the championship. I had a couple of bad races and that was costly when up against someone like Josh. Thanks to the Yamaha Racing Team for another year of amazing support and to the ASBK for a great platform for us to race. This is only going to fuel me over the summer and I plan to come back more motivated and stronger than ever in 2025.
