Jones FIM Oceania's highest points scorer in Spain.
Team Oceania secured third in the inaugural FIM Intercontinental Games at the weekend in Jerez, Spain, where three-time Australian Superbike champion Mike Jones led the way as the squad’s highest points scorer.
The newly introduced event saw the six FIM Continental Unions face off against each other across Supersport and Supersport 300 classes, with all riders provided identical YZF-R3 and YZF-R7 motorcycles.
FIM Oceania was reduced to a seven-rider outfit following the withdrawal of Max Stauffer, who sustained a wrist injury during practice, while it was Jones who spearheaded the talented team by scoring 5-2 results in the Supersport category. Tom Toparis registered a pair of P7 finishes as WorldWCR regular Tayla Relph overcame a crash in race one to rebound for 14th in the final outing.
In the Supersport 300 class, Archie McDonald was third in the opening encounter followed by Jesse Stroud, Cameron Swain, and Tara Morrison in positions 10, 13, and 17. Swain and Stroud crashed out of race two as Morrison crossed the line in P15, while McDonald recovered from an early fall to finish 16th.
Team Europe was crowned champions of the inaugural event over Asia. The next instalment of the FIM Intercontinental Games is due to take place in 2026, although the host venue is yet to be announced.
