Moto3 standout Jacob Roulstone will undergo surgery in Barcelona this week after suffering a spinal injury during pre-season training on Friday, which resulted in a displaced fracture of his C3 vertebra.

It’s not confirmed how long Roulstone – who was set to enter his second season with the Red Bull KTM Tech3 team in the world championship – will be on the sidelines, but the 19-year-old now sets his sights on recovery.

“Last Friday I had a crash whilst training at Jerez, which has left me with a fractured and displaced C3 vertebrae in my neck,” reported Roulstone.

“After three nights in Jerez hospital, I was lucky enough to be medically flown to Barcelona yesterday and now in the best hands to have surgery in the next day or two.

“It’s a real shame to have this after such a good pre-season that I was having, but now it is about recovering as fast and as safely as possible to be back on the bike.

“I cannot thank Xavi Arenas enough for being by my side and helping to arrange everything, as well as the medical staff involved.”

Roulstone finished 15th in the Moto3 World Championship last season as a rookie, including multiple top 10 finishes onboard GasGas machinery, which has been rebranded to KTM for 2025.
