Final race victory highlights successful weekend in ASBK Supersport.
After what was an impressive showing at the Mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) season-opener at Phillip Island, Jack Mahaffy has suggested that he expected this round will be the toughest, despite the Victorian taking out the final Supersport race win.
Mahaffy triumphed in the final Supersport encounter by a slim 0.619s margin over Stop and Seal Racing Yamaha teammate Archie McDonald, with two second-place finishes in the opening races situating him in second place overall.
A big overnight effort from the team between Saturday and Sunday has been credited for the race win, as additional performance and comfort was found from his YZF-R6.
“We had a really strong pre-season,” Mahaffy told CycleOnline. “I [take] my hat off to Wayne Maxwell and the Ohvale group for helping me with that.
“But yeah, we were really keen to get the season underway here at Phillip Island. This was probably going to be our toughest round, but we finished off strong. Yesterday, I had two second place finishes and I just was missing a little something.
“The team really put in a late night last night and it paid off today. It was some close racing and yeah, I’m excited to finish off well, and get started on the rest of the season and remain consistent.”
The Phillip Island win marks the second of Mahaffy’s Supersport career, with riders gearing up for round two of the 2025 ASBK championship at Sydney Motorsport Park under lights between March 28-29.
