Australian P11 to begin the 2025 MotoGP season at Buriram.
After starting the Thai GP inside the top-five, Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP recruit Jack Miller encountered a loose fairing on Sunday, forcing him to settle for P11 as the chequered flag waved on the 2025 MotoGP season-opener.
Launching from P4 on the grid, Miller battled with rookie Ai Ogura and Franco Morbidelli for positions four through six at Buriram. However, prior to half distance a fairing issue forced him into damage control, costing him several positions in the final laps.
“Overall it was a good day for me,” said Miller, who had crashed out of Saturday’s sprint. “I felt pretty decent, but I had a small issue with the fairing around lap eight, which caused me to lose touch with the front group.
“Unfortunately, one of the clips popped out, and the whole fairing started coming loose. As you know, aerodynamics are crucial these days, and I started struggling with turning and carrying corner speed – especially in what was my strongest sector, turns four and five.
“On top of that, I was cooking out there because all the air was being directed straight at me. It made the race even hotter, and I actually burned my inner arms trying to hold the fairing in place on the straights, but I managed to make it to the finish line.
“In the end, I lost a few positions because of that, but I kept it together and brought home some points. Overall, it was a positive weekend. We‘re focused on building a solid foundation, and we‘ll keep working hard.”
Despite the dramas, Miller was the best of the YZR-M1 mounted quartet, finishing ahead of teammate Miguel Oliveira (P14) and Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP factory duo Fabio Quartararo (P15) and Alex Rins (P17).
