Increase in power from the latest developments to M1.
Prima Pramac Yamaha’s Jack Miller has been left with a feeling of contentment following the post-Spanish Grand Prix test at the Jerez Circuit, running through a range of upgrades to his YZR-M1 highlighted by an upgraded engine specification.
Miller completed a total of 52 laps throughout the test, with the latest inline-four engine – not yet receiving the anticipated V4 configuration – providing a boost in power while retaining its key characteristics, ensuring that the riders remained comfortable while evaluating the changes.
The list of upgrades were a welcome addition for the 30-year-old, who mentioned he was ‘very happy’ with the progress made by the team back at the factory. His 1m36.977s lap-time in the afternoon placed him P13 on the combined timesheets.
“These tests for us are very important, and it was a good chance to shake down the bike and understand a few things that you can‘t do on a race weekend,” commented Miller. “We had some new stuff, lots of interesting items coming from the factory, [and] I am very happy with the progress of the bike and looking forward to going racing in Le Mans.
“We tried the new engine and I was very happy with it, even if, as a rider, you always keep asking for more power, but they were good at bringing what they had indicated and it looks really solid. We got through all the items we needed to, without chasing a time, but just trying to understand the feeling. I am happy where we are heading.”
Pramac MotoGP team director Gino Borsoi added: “It was a very good testing day, as we were able to try a lot of new things that Yamaha has prepared for this day. A new engine, some suspension parts, and the riders’ feedback were good, they were happy and, as the results of the two other Yamaha riders are showing, it confirms we are going in the right direction.
“The character of the engine is very similar to the one we have been using so far, but offers more power and it could help us in the near future to get better results. But the entire package that we tested today was working well and seems to put us in the right way. From the beginning of the season we have continuously made steps forward, and [Fabio] Quartararo‘s results in the weekend confirm that.”
Miller has experienced a mixed start to his Yamaha tenure, highlighted by a fifth-place finish at the Americas GP, however, a crash during the Spanish GP on the weekend resulted in a DNF, which places him in 16th place overall after five rounds.
