How Razgatlioglu signing casts Jack Miller’s future up in the air

Two-time WorldSBK champion signed to Pramac Yamaha for MotoGP 2026.

The future of Jack Miller in the MotoGP category has been thrown into question once more, with the Prima Pramac Yamaha team completing a high-profile signing of two-time World Superbike (WorldSBK) champion Toprak Razgatlioglu for the 2026 season.

Questions were raised regarding his future in the grand prix paddock before a lifeline of sorts was provided by the Pramac team at the 11th hour last year, however, a one-year contract left anything beyond that up in the air, with teammate Miguel Oliveira’s deal spanning until the end of next year.

A challenging 2024 season as part of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing program, which yielded two top-five finishes and 14th in points, had many wondering whether the former race winner’s moment in the sun had arrived, with the Austrian outfit electing to promote rookie Pedro Acosta into Miller’s seat at the marque for 2025.

This left Miller out in the cold, and after finding a home upon returning to Pramac, it now appears that he is once more on the outside looking in regarding his MotoGP fate, with the 28-year-old Razgatlioglu confirmed as lining up onboard the team’s factory-backed YZR-M1 for the next two years.

“We are thrilled to welcome Toprak back into the Yamaha family,” commented Paolo Pavesio, managing director of Yamaha Motor Racing. “Toprak, the most victorious Yamaha rider of all time in Superbike, has proven to be an exceptional talent, securing the WorldSBK title twice, which is no mean feat.

“His transition to MotoGP is both a ‘homecoming’ and an exciting new challenge that’s been set up with the clear goal of progressive growth over time. His fighting spirit and determination are a perfect fit for both the Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Team and Yamaha’s bold MotoGP strategy, so we believe 2026 is the right time to make the move that many fans have been waiting for.”

Ironically, the news of Miller’s replacement last year – Acosta – came in June, with the Razgatlioglu signing coming at effectively the same time, leaving the 30-year-old from Townsville with just over half a season’s worth of races to once more demonstrate his worth in the paddock.

As for what’s available, as of now, French GP winner Johann Zarco is not locked in at LCR Honda for next year, while Luca Marini is also not tied down with the Honda HRC Castrol squad. Lastly, Franco Morbidelli hasn’t signed anything further with the VR46 Ducati team beyond 2025, although he sits a comfortable P4 overall.

Notably, all three riders are in front of Miller in the point-standings, with the number 43 currently in 16th position with a fifth-place finish at the Americas GP his best result for the season. Teammate Oliveira is 22nd overall, but it’s not completely out of the question that Pramac does in fact move to retain Miller while instead moving Oliveira on.

Regardless, as of now, such a scenario once again leaves Miller in an awkward position, and one that he may not be able to navigate his way out of, like he managed one year ago. As for the team’s perspective, the Razgatlioglu announcement stated that ‘details regarding the 2026 line-up of the Prima Pramac Yamaha MotoGP Team will be communicated in due course.’
