Jump-start impacts the emerging Moto2 standout’s German GP.
A jump-start and two long lap penalties cost Senna Agius any chance of a Moto2 victory at Sachsenring on Sunday, the Australian standout eventually finishing 11th after starting from P4 on the grid.
Despite a spectacular fall on his final flying lap, the Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider qualified fourth and was poised to challenge for the podium – until a jump-start at lights out denied the 20-year-old’s winning hopes.
As a result, Agius was handed two long lap penalties but delivered a spirited ride back to 11th despite a red-flag stoppage, showcasing front-running potential throughout the weekend while rueing a missed opportunity at a possible victory.
“Unfortunately, I made that mistake again – I feel sorry for the team and angry with myself because I think we could have fought for the win today,” reflected Agius post-race. “So, I apologise for my mistake, but in a few days we can fight for the win again in Brno. Otherwise, the race went normally because I had a good pace.
“As I expected, I could have fought for the win because I knew I could catch up, but unfortunately, the incident caused us to lose five laps, which ultimately cost me a top 10 finish. We scored a few points, but nowhere near what we wanted to achieve.”
After 11 rounds of racing in the 2025 season to date, Agius – who has already re-signed with Intact for next year – currently sits seventh overall in the Moto2 World Championship classification, with the series heading to the Czech Republic this weekend.
