Australian Moto3 racer gaining form after early-season injury.
Australian Moto3 talent Jacob Roulstone achieved a season-high eighth-place result at the German GP on Sunday, with the Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider finishing within the same second of the race winner in what was a tense ending to the 23-lap encounter.
Qualifying 18th in wet conditions, Roulstone steadily worked his way through the field over the duration of the race, within sight of the leaders as the laps wound down. A spirited ride ultimately resulted in an eighth-place finish, as he continues to build back into form.
“P8 and just 0.8s off the win, [which is] the season’s best result so far,” commented Roulstone after the race. “I felt strong from the start and managed to hold my own and fight up to the front, [before having] some rear tire struggles towards the end, and had to manage with it as best as I could from my flat track background.
“[A] big self-confidence boost today and a huge thanks to the team for the tough weekend, we have another race this week, and a new track for me at Brno in the Czech Republic.”
The 20-year-old prospect missed the opening two rounds of this year’s championship due to a fractured C3 vertebra in a pre-season incident, with a return at the third round at the Circuit of the Americas for round three.
Since then, Roulstone has captured two top 10 finishes – one at the Sachsenring and the other at the Spanish GP in April – with his latest result a solid indication of increased performance in his second season in the category.
Roulstone currently sits P18 in this year’s standings, with his P8 ride in Germany tying his career-best finish, which he achieved on three occasions during his maiden Moto3 World Championship season last year.
