A multi-rider incident drew a premature end to GYTR GRT Yamaha rider Remy Gardner’s WorldSBK weekend at Balaton Park on Saturday, with the Australian rider spending the night hospitalised after a back contusion and suspected concussion were sustained in the fall.

The 27-year-old qualified 11th for the opening encounter in Hungary after a red flag interrupted his flying lap, before chaos ensued almost immediately in race one. A multi-rider fall at turn two saw Gardner involved, with the race being red-flagged directly afterwards.

After being taken to the on-site medical centre, Gardner was transferred to a nearby local hospital, remaining under observation overnight and was subsequently ruled out of Sunday’s proceedings.

Having been released on Sunday afternoon, Gardner flew back to Barcelona and will now commence his recovery. After scoring no championship points at the eighth round, he is now listed P13 in the overall standings.

The 2025 WorldSBK championship now enters its annual European summer break, with racing set to resume once more on September 5-7 at Magny-Cours for round nine of the series in France.
