Front-running Supersport racers joining ASBK field in Queensland.
Stop and Seal Racing ASBK Supersport leaders Jack Mahaffy and Archie McDonald are set to bolster the Next Gen grid in addition to multi-time champion Tom Toparis – expected to be Ducati-mounted – at Queensland Raceway’s two-plus-four Supercars event.
While Toparis appears to be in line for a Supersport return on the newly-developed Panigale V2, for Mahaffy and McDonald, it remains unclear whether they will be aboard upgraded machinery or their regular ASBK specification Yamaha YZF-R6s.
It was a contentious topic when the Next Gen category was introduced at round three of the season at the same venue, where a single practice session caused Motorcycling Australia (MA) to reverse their ruling for the class to be part of the regular Supersport ranks, instead of being up against the Superbike contenders.
The decision was made after the sole entry of DesmoSport Ducati’s Luca Durning was at a significant speed deficit compared to the premier class Superbike machinery, however, they have been combined once more for the Superbike-only round next weekend.
In addition, Beau Beaton also features on the entry list with Stop and Seal equipped with a YZF-R1, while emerging talent Marcus Hamod is listed aboard a Honda CBR1000RR in what would mark his first premier class appearance.
Queensland Raceway will also see European-based prospect Harrison Voight return to the ASBK field as part of the defending champion McMartin Racing alongside four-time title winner Josh Waters on the Panigale V4 R.
The fifth round of the 2025 Mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) will take place from August 8-10, marking its first appearance as a Supercars Championship support category since Darwin two years ago.
