Moto2 contender Senna Agius is set to undergo further assessment after a frightening opening lap collision during the Grand Prix of Austria on Sunday, with the Australian luckily escaping serious injury in the aftermath of the impact.

The 13th round of 2025 was trending positively for the Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider, who qualified in sixth position after making improvements to his machine in between the practice and qualifying sessions.

Upon powering to a strong start to commence the 23-lap encounter, it was at turn two where drama would unfold, as Agius tangled with Ivan Ortola (MSi Racing Team) and Alonso Lopez (Sync SpeedRS Team), leaving the 20-year-old out of the race.

Following initial scans of both hand and head at the on-site medical centre, he was then transferred to a nearby hospital for additional examination, with further assessment planned after returning to Barcelona.

“We had an incredible weekend here in Styria leading up to the Moto2 race,” reflected team manager Jurgen Lingg. “Unfortunately, things didn’t go as we had hoped in the Moto2 race for our team here at the Red Bull Ring, with Senna crashing through no fault of his own and hitting his head quite hard.

“The most important thing is that he is conscious and doing well so far. We hope he recovers as quickly as possible – he is doing well under the circumstances, and hopefully he will be able to ride again soon.”

Agius himself added in a brief post on social media: “Lucky to be walking away today relatively okay after a scary crash on lap one. Time to recover to get back on it soon.”

With no points scored in Austria, Agius currently sits ninth in this year’s Moto2 World Championship standings after 13 rounds of racing, with no timeline offered on his return to competition.
