An opportunity in MotoAmerica has emerged for ASBK regular Max Stauffer, with the Australian set to debut next weekend at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) with the Superbike Unlimited Yamaha team in Texas.

Stauffer’s chance on the American Superbike grid comes at a pivotal time for the 21-year-old, who recently parted ways with Yamaha Racing Team (YRT), opening the door to try his hand overseas.

“I’m super-excited to make my way over to the MotoAmerica championship with the SBU team – it’s like a dream come true,” Stauffer commented. “This is an unreal opportunity for myself and I’m more than excited to get to the States, meet up with the team, and get our big weekend of learning and developing underway.

“Overall, I’m excited to make the most of this opportunity, and I can’t extend my gratitude enough to the people who have put this all together.”

Stauffer currently sits P7 in the Mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) following a difficult tenure with YRT, instead entering his own independent YZF-R1 for this weekend at Phillip Island.

“Moving forward, the plan is to get to Phillip Island this weekend with dad in my corner on the same bike I rode last year,” Stauffer told CycleOnline. “I’ve had some good help from a few people, and we’re looking forward to letting everyone know who we’ll be working with down there.

“The goal is to put some good results on the board and see what we can build on for the rest of the year. It’s really about going back to what I know, and I’m excited to start rebuilding my base and moving forward again. There are a lot of things I want to try and a lot I need to improve on as a rider, so I’m eager to get underway at Phillip Island and see where we end up.

“We’ll be running Motec electronics like we did when I was previously working with dad, and I think that’s a positive step – I’m looking forward to riding something a bit different again, getting that feeling back, and finding my flow.”
