Lack of grip contributes to challenging outing in Barcelona.
Moto2 front-runner Senna Agius has detailed what ended up being a difficult return to racing at Catalunya, where a lack of grip on Sunday from the fifth lap onwards left him with a ‘disastrous feeling’ throughout the race.
The 20-year-old Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider made a return to competition after experiencing a frightening fall at the 13th round of the series in Austria, remaining on the sidelines for the Hungarian GP in favour of recovery.
For round 15, Aguis qualified eighth before being promoted to P6 after penalties were applied to other riders, before a turbulent race – which included a long lap penalty due to exceeding track limits – saw him finish in 18th.
“There isn’t much to say today because it was a really bad race for us,” commented Agius. “From lap five onwards, I had absolutely no grip. Riding without grip in a long race like here in Barcelona was a disastrous feeling. I couldn’t open the throttle and was just coasting through the middle of the corners.
“We now need to analyse why that was the case. My long runs with the pace on used tyres were much better throughout the weekend, and I had expected to be fighting for the top places today. So we were very unlucky, but hopefully we can make up for it next week in Misano.”
Despite his recent setbacks, Agius currently sits 10th in the Moto2 World Championship standings with seven rounds remaining, already re-signed with the Intact GP team for the 2026 season.
