Josh Waters (McMartin Racing Ducati) – First overall:
That was a wild day, and in race two a lot of the other riders had nothing to lose, while I have a lot on my mind in terms of the championship. I was getting carved up like a Sunday roast, but I was happy with the result and I’d like to thank my team and all of our sponsors for their support.
Mike Jones (Yamaha Racing Team) – Fifth overall:
It wasn’t the weekend I was after and I’m disappointed with my results. In both races, the bike was in great shape, and I just wasn’t riding it to its potential and that’s on me. The team worked hard, and I let them down. Race one wasn’t too bad as there was no grip at all as the rain fell, so as riders went down around me, I just kept my pace and worked my way through it. Race two and I just needed to ride with more freedom. I wanted to be too precise on a track where needed you to hang it out a bit. I need to be better than that.
Troy Herfoss (Yamaha Racing Team) – DNS:
I apologised to the team and felt like I had let them down. The team worked hard to get things ready for me in the lead up to Phillip Island and Saturday was such an enjoyable day as we kept making strides forward and the feeling on the bike was getting better. But we will be back, and I owe YRT some good results. I will be out to redeem myself at One Raceway.
Broc Pearson (DesmoSport Ducati) – Third overall:
I felt like we missed out on a couple of good opportunities, but I’m super happy with my riding and the team is working really well. We were down on top speed a little bit in the first race which cost us the win, but conditions were crazy with 60 kilometre winds and rain. Even though it was so slippery the traction control was cutting in more an more at the end of the race, but I was too nervous to change the setting! We led every lap until the last hundred metres which sucks, but the next place back in third was thirty seconds behind so it was cool to have some pace. In the second race it was patchy, again I led a lot of laps and got my elbows out and had some fun. Third overall for the round, so we’ve made a good step in the right direction this weekend and now we head to One Raceway where last year we picked up a win so I can’t wait to get back on the bike in a few weeks time.
Ant West (Addicted to Track Yamaha) – Second overall:
I don’t remember too much about race two, as there was just so much going on. But some of the young guys were making me angry, which really fired me up to get the job done. This weekend has been awesome on so many levels.
Jonathan Nahlous (Omega Racing Team) – Fourth overall:
Race one conditions were sketchy, and I lost a lot of ground running wide in the opening lap. Although I was able to fight my way back to a P6 finish, I couldn’t help feeling like we were still on the backfoot. Race two was just what we needed, a real sign that we’re still moving forward. I got a great start , and whilst track conditions were still tough, I had an amazing battle in the leading group of six, at one point neck-and-neck with race winner Ant West. I finished the race in P5, which secured us P4 overall! While I didn’t clinch a spot on the podium today, I couldn’t be happier, and eagerly look forward to the next round at One Raceway.
Glenn Allerton (Superbike Advocates Racing Team) – Sixth overall:
It was a rollercoaster of a weekend for our team. I injured my back on Friday during the pit setup, so a massive thanks to Mark from Racesafe for looking after me. I was not able to ride Friday practice and qualifying, so I chose to rest and gave Sunday warm up a try. We started the races last and had a amazing podium in race one, then race two I was up to P7 before a slow puncture forced me to back off. The whole team did such a great job to have the bike ready for me.
Cameron Dunker (MotoGo Yamaha) – Seventh overall:
It was a tough weekend here at Phillip Island, coming away with P9 and P8 in the races. I never felt comfortable in the wet race this weekend, so that’s something we need to work on. A massive thanks to my team for getting the bike running again after our mechanical issue on Saturday. Back to the drawing board…
Supersport
Olly Simpson (BCpeformance Kawasaki) – First overall:
That was one of the crazier weekends of racing I have had, especially in the 600 class! Phillip Island will do that though – the weather was pretty wild across each of our races and in the second one we were on wets while the track was drying, which is always entertaining. I’ve always loved the wet weather, I have a lot of confidence in those conditions, but yeah, for us to go 1-2 in that second race gives a great motivation boost to everyone on the team. We’re excited to keep it rolling in the next couple of rounds, and really thrilled to have gotten the points we did today.
Hayden Nelson (BCpeformance Kawasaki) – Third overall:
I’m really happy with the weekend. I qualified well and was happy with the time I posted, and then the opening race was a little bit difficult and didn’t quite go the way we’d hoped. Race two, we bounced back and claimed a 1-2 for the team, which is amazing! I’ve really found comfort in both the dry and wet now – especially at this round – so heading into the last two rounds, I’m feeling very confident on the bike. To have two Kawasakis at the front is a great achievement and a testament to all the work the team has been putting in.
Archie McDonald (Stop and Seal Yamaha) – Fourth overall:
The Island did what it does best on Sunday – four seasons in one day – making both races half dry and half wet. It didn’t stop me though, with rain on my visor throughout the whole of race one I brought it home in fourth instead of not at all. Race two was just as exciting, with everyone on wet tyres I dropped down to twelfth, but once it started to dry out I locked back in and worked my way back to fourth, with the fastest lap of the race. The championship is close and there’s still a lot more to go. I’m truly grateful to all my friends, family, fans, mechanics, and everyone for another great weekend.
Tom Bramich (Yamaha) – Seventh overall:
This weekend had a bit of everything crammed into two short days. Race one in tricky conditions felt strong — grabbed the fastest lap and fought for the podium. Race two in the wet was a different story, just couldn’t get comfortable, so we know where we need to improve. Next stop is One Raceway, let’s get it!
Marcus Hamod (Honda) – Ninth overall:
Character-building weekend for me. Not exactly my best, finishing ninth overall, and lacking a bit of luck on this thing as of late, but that’s racing. I thought we were going to be packing the trailer on Saturday, but thanks to the boys Tom and Matt from Superbike Advocates Racing, along with my team for fixing the bike, we managed to finish the weekend. I’m happy with how we came back and couldn’t have done it without everyone behind me. See you at the home round in a month.
