It was a largely difficult weekend at the 10th round of the Motul Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) in Aragon for Remy Gardner, labelling a P12 finish in race two as ‘not the result we want.’

The GYTR GRT Yamaha team entered the weekend aware of the challenge, knowing the Spanish layout would highlight the weaker points of its YZF-R1s.

Still, Gardner recorded 10th place on the grid for Saturday’s encounter, with a time that was over a second faster than 2024.

Race one would ultimately result in a DNF following an electrical drama, while race two saw the 27-year-old climb from 16th on the grid to earn a 12th-place finish, and maintain 12th in the overall standings.

“It just wasn’t our day,” Gardner reflected. “Superpole wasn’t bad, but not quite enough to secure at least a third-row start, even though we improved by more than a second compared to last year.

“In race one, I was close to the leading group in the opening laps, but unfortunately, I began struggling in the second half and had to retire due to an electrical problem. We knew this track wouldn’t play to our strengths, but we gave everything we had. I felt there was more potential, but we couldn’t fully show it.

“Sunday’s sprint race was disappointing, while in race two, we were at least able to keep a steadier rhythm to the end. It’s not the result we want, but we’ll take the positives and focus on improving for the remaining rounds, where we expect to be stronger.”

Two rounds remain in this year’s WorldSBK championship, with Gardner having sealed his future in the category after signing a two-year contract extension with the GYTR GRT Yamaha program, which will take him through to 2027.
