Moto2 standout struggles for comfort at Japanese GP.
An early exit to the Japanese GP capped off a ‘difficult weekend’ for Moto2 standout Senna Agius, with the Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider struggling for pace and reliability throughout each session at Motegi.
The 20-year-old arrived after sealing a much-needed P5 result at the previous round in San Marino, before completing each practice session in Japan on the bubble of the top 20, with technical issues impacting his track time.
Agius posted the sixth-fastest time in Q1, which saw the New South Welshman begin Sunday’s race from 20th on the grid. A mistake on the fourth lap, however, ended his campaign early, and completed what was a challenging weekend in Japan.
“Nothing really to say, except that I gained a few positions on the first lap and showed some nice overtaking manoeuvres,” reflected Agius. “But then I felt like I was at the limit when braking, and I had a moment when turning into turn five, which unfortunately resulted in me crashing.
“I apologize to the team for this mistake on my part. It was a difficult weekend – the only thing we can do is learn from it and prepare well for Indonesia so we can come back strong there.”
The result sees him concede one position in the Moto2 World Championship classification, as he is now ranked ninth overall with five rounds remaining in this year’s series. Agius has already re-signed for the Intact GP team for 2026.
