Australian Moto2 racer details Phillip Island home victory.
Australian Moto2 standout Senna Agius has described his Liqui Moly Australian Grand Prix victory as ‘truly incredible’ after converting a front-row start into his second-career win in the category.
The Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider showed front-running pace throughout the Phillip Island weekend, finishing fourth in FP1 and second in FP2 before qualifying second for Sunday’s 22-lap race – just 0.011s behind pole-sitter Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team).
Agius took the lead into Doohan Corner on lap one and controlled proceedings to take an emphatic 3.684s victory – after leading by almost seven seconds in stages – marking his second win of the 2025 season after success at the British GP.
“I’m overjoyed – winning at home is truly incredible,” reflected Agius after the race. “ It wasn’t my first victory, as I’ve already won at Silverstone, but I only secured it on the last lap. Today was completely different, as I was in the lead the whole time. I knew from Friday that I had the pace to do it.
“I got off to a good start, but I was a little concerned about the bike in the first two laps. However, I quickly found my rhythm and was able to pull away. Then I saw that there were 15 laps to go and thought to myself, ‘It’s still a long way to go, but I want to see the finish line.’
“I’m really proud to have achieved my first victory at Phillip Island. It’s fantastic to do this in my home country, with my whole family and all my friends here. I’m lost for words, and I’ve almost lost my voice because I was screaming the whole in-lap.”
With the Phillip Island result, Agius climbed to eighth position in the Moto2 World Championship standings, having recorded two wins and an additional pair of podium finishes during his 2025 campaign.
