Difficulty managing tyre temperatures at Malaysian GP.
Prima Pramac Yamaha’s Jack Miller is targeting a ‘more competitive’ showing at the Portuguese MotoGP in a fortnight’s time, the Queenslander enduring a difficult outing at Sepang where he managed tyre wear throughout to finish 14th on Sunday.
Miller advanced directly into Q2 in Malaysia, which marked a positive start to the 20th round of the season, setting the 11th fastest time and a fourth-row start for the races.
Saturday’s sprint proved challenging, with mid-pack traffic elevating tyre temperatures and limiting progress, as Miller brought his YZR-M1 home in 14th position.
In the 20-lap encounter on Sunday, Miller again adopted a conservative approach, focusing on tire management to secure points in what was a largely difficult Malaysian weekend for another P14 result.
“I tried to manage the tyres as best as I could, being very gentle at the beginning of the race to make sure I could get to the end and hopefully have something left in my pocket,” recounted Miller.
“But I had the same issues as the guys around me. [Alex] Rins was in the same boat as me, nursing most of the race, even though it seemed like he had a little bit more on the corner exits. In the end, I focused on bringing it home rather than ending up in the gravel. I hope we can be more competitive in Portimao.”
Miller has experienced a tough run of form through the second half of the season and currently sits 18th in the championship standings, with two rounds remaining in the 2025 MotoGP campaign.
