Severe tyre degradation for Moto2 rising star Senna Agius led to a ‘nightmare’ outing at the Valencia season finale, with the Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP rider still managing to salvage a P7 result.

The 20-year-old was eyeing a strong finish to the championship following a quiet stretch since his Phillip Island victory, qualifying third and securing a front-row start for the 22-lap encounter.

A steady pace to commence the race was met with an eventual loss of grip, which left Aguis tasked with nursing his motorcycle to the finish line.

“It was a bit of a nightmare, unfortunately,” reflected Agius post-race. “We had a good start and a good mentality – expectations were clearly set for winning the race today. In the first few laps, I followed Izan [Guevara] and Dani [Holgado] and remained calm, but then I had problems with the tyre, which had disastrous consequences.

“I just tried to get the bike to the finish line and not crash after having some massive moments. The left side of the tyre was worn out. It doesn’t feel fair because this weekend I did most of the laps at a good rhythm in a long time, and the pace was strong too.”

Though frustrated with his Valencia weekend, Agius posted a solid second full season in the Moto2 World Championship this year, earning victories at both the British and Australian GPs. A further two podiums culminated in 10th for the overall classification.

“It’s disappointing because I could have fought for my third win of the season,” he continued. “I know what I’m capable of, and we can clearly do it, so for that I can end the season on a high note in my head.”

Agius’ future in Moto2 is locked in for 2026, the Australian signing a contract extension with the front-running squad in July.
