Newly-crowned MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez will be sidelined for the Liqui Moly Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix between October 17-19 after enduring a bruising outing in Indonesia on Sunday, where an opening lap incident resulted in upper-arm injuries.

The seven-time title-winner was sent tumbling through the gravel trap after being tagged by Aprilia Racing’s Marco Bezzechi moments into the 27-lap encounter, with preliminary scans in the aftermath showing signs of a collarbone injury.

After flying back to Spain, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider underwent further assessment at the Ruber Internacional Hospital in Madrid, with the results revealing a fracture at the base of the coracoid process and a ligament injury to his right shoulder.

Additional clinical examination and radiological assessment ruled out any connection with previous injuries and confirmed the absence of significant bone displacement. He will also miss Sepang, Malaysia, following Phillip Island.

“Fortunately, the injury isn’t serious, but it’s important to respect the recovery timeline,” commented Marquez. “My goal is to be back before the end of the season, but without rushing things beyond the doctors’ recommendations. Both my personal and the team’s main goals have been achieved, so now the priority is to recover properly and get back to 100 percent.”

Marquez has been exceptional to date in the 2025 MotoGP season, winning 11 races and securing an additional four podium finishes, which ultimately earned him the championship at the Japanese GP.
