Australia’s Casey Stoner has told Valentino Rossi that his ‘ambition outweighed his talent’ after the pair clashed during Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix.

Rossi was making an aggressive move toward the front of the pack in the early stages of the damp race, however he crashed while attempting a pass on Stoner for second position.

As Rossi and his Ducati Desmosedici GP11 slid toward the gravel they collected Repsol Honda’s Stoner, forcing him out of the race.

While Rossi managed to remount to finish a solid fifth in an attrition-filled affair, Stoner was left frustrated on the sidelines after marshals neglected to help him re-fire the RC212V.

Following the race, Rossi went to appologise to Stoner in the HRC garage, with Stoner letting him know exactly what he thought of the incident.

“You had something wrong with the shoulder?” Stoner said to the nine-time world champion. “Obviously your ambition outweighed your talent. Your ambition outweighed your talent.”

The race was won by Spain’s current world champion Jorge Lorenzo, who took over the title lead for Yamaha following a slow start to the season.
