Bryan Staring rode capably and avoided trouble to take his first points in MotoGP.

Australia’s Bryan Staring managed scorching track temperatures to score his first-ever MotoGP World Championship points with a 14th place finish at Catalunya in Spain.

The GO&FUN Gresini Honda rider improved upon a previous personal best of 16th place and was able to make up eight places throughout the race which saw a number of riders caught out in tricky, greasy conditions.

Though he was able to take his first points, Staring remains focused on the goal of reaching development targets and still felt he fell somewhat short this weekend.

“I have scored my first World Championship points today but I am still not particularly happy because I would have liked to do it more on the front foot,” said Staring.

“It wasn’t an easy race because of the conditions and I was able to improve my pace from qualifying so that’s good but I’m still not happy to be honest.

“Anyway, we have to take the positives and try to learn from this experience in the future.”

Staring’s finish was one of few positives for Fausto Gresini’s team, with the lead MotoGP rider Alvaro Bautista crashing out of the race early for the second consecutive outing.

Gresini recognised Staring’s persistence and remained steadfast in support of the promising Aussie rider.

“Bryan did well to pick up his first couple of points and even though he is not happy he is moving in the right direction and we need to keep this going,” said Gresini.

Staring now sits 22nd on the overall standings and is a classified point-scorer after just six outings on his Honda CBR1000RR-powered CRT machine.
