The MRRDA National Junior Road Race Championship, a proving ground for emerging road racers, will join the support card at the upcoming Sydney Motorsport Park double-header round of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) on 1-4 August.

The late development will mark the MRRDA’s first national meeting at the venue, formerly Eastern Creek Raceway, and is a good chance for riders aged 12-16 to mix it with the premier class ranks and greater motorcycle industry.

“It is great to finally have the juniors back racing in New South Wales and to run with the Australian Superbike Championship provides great for exposure for both parties,” said Paul Edwards, founder and chairman of the MRRDA.

“Teams will get the chance to see first-hand, the talent that is coming up through the ranks and our junior riders will have the chance can see what options are available as they progress their racing careers.

“As part of their weekend at the Australian Superbike Championship the junior riders will spend time with Team Honda Racing principle Paul Fee, who will talk to them about bike set up and the importance of feedback.”

Approximately 20 junior riders will contest the fifth round of the MRRDA series, which will feature one race on Saturday and two races on Sunday.

International Entertainment Group general manager Phil Harper hoped the move would help to develop a relationship between the two parties with the opportunity to run further rounds in future.

“We are very proud to have the MRRDA National Junior Road Race Championship running alongside the QBE Australian Superbike Championship for the first time,” said Harper.

“It is fantastic opportunity for these young riders to showcase their talent to the factory teams, media and a wider audience.

“This is the first time the juniors have run alongside a national championship in Australia and we hope that we can build on this in the future.”

The championship will run as part of the four-day event which makes up the fourth and fifth rounds of the ASBK.
