Team Suzuki’s Wayne Maxwell clinched the Australian Superbike Championship round four victory in a pivotal performance on Saturday at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Maxwell hunted down teammate Robbie Bugden in the closing laps, making a move in Turn Nine on the penultimate lap before Bugden immediately pounced back in a daring pass at the high-speed first turn.

“Full hats off to Team Suzuki, credit to the guys and it’s been a great weekend,” Maxwell said. “Robbie didn’t make it easy, but we’ll be back to try and do it all again tomorrow.”

The final lap saw Maxwell sneak back through in a mirror maneuver, going on the hold on for the race two win by 0.149s ahead of Bugden and Jamie Stauffer (Team Honda Racing).

Those three filled the podium overall four round four – the first half of the double-header weekend in the series’ return to Eastern Creek.

The big news in race two was the DNF of former series leader Glenn Allerton (Next Gen Motorsports BMW), who exited at Turn Six in the closing stages while trailing the Suzukis in third.

Fourth was Stauffer’s teammate Josh Hook, topping fellow rookie contender Glenn Scott (InsureMyRide Racing Honda) after he was forced to fight through from well outside the top five.

Maxwell now leads the championship on 130 points, nine ahead of Allerton, who is in turn another two ahead of Bugden.
