Bikebiz Kawasaki’s Sean Condon powered through the pain of a broken ankle at Wakefield Park’s penultimate round of the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship, maintaining his standing as top privateer inside the top 10 of the series.

Condon broke his ankle in a motocross incident at Appin on Tuesday, 2 September, and underwent surgery that Friday, 5 September, just one week out from the opening practice sessions in Goulburn.

After sitting out Friday practice/qualifying and completing limited laps on Saturday including a costly crash during race two, Condon stunned on Sunday with 10th overall via 11-10-10 finishes and maintains eighth in the championship.

“I sat out qualifying and then started from the rear of the field in race one on Saturday, cruised around to see how my ankle went,” Condon told CycleOnline.com.au.

“”I was only going to do race two after that to get a time for Sunday, but unfortunately I got taken out three laps into it. I went out in the last one to post a time again, but actually didn’t go any quicker than the second one.”

Despite a trying start to the weekend, Condon met his personal and team’s expectations of maintaining the position of top privateer and inside the championship top 10 on Sunday. He will now look to finish with a bang at Sydney Motorsport Park’s final round in November.

“If I didn’t go out and attempt to accumulate points, I would have been outside that top 10 and being the first privateer home – my two goals in my rookie Superbike season. I’m definitely happy that I went out to circulate.

“I’m looking to end the season on a high note in Sydney; I’ll be 100 percent fit by then and we have a couple of test days lined up. That’s definitely my focus on the last one, having a big one.”

After a glowing first full season in the premier class, Condon’s primary target for 2015 is to continue on board the ZX-10R – that decision to be finalised following Sydney Motorsport Park’s finale.
