Pasini narrowly edges Schrotter for Phillip Island Moto2 pole

Gardner to start 16th following solid qualifying outing.

Italtrans Racing Team’s Mattia Pasini has narrowly edged out Marcel Schrotter (Dynavolt Intact GP) for pole position at Phillip Island’s 16th round of the Moto2 World Championship today.

Pasini lodged a quicktime of 1m33.300s, beating Schrotter’s best time by a slender 0.008s to credited with the top spot ahead of tomorrow’s race.

Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Miguel Oliviera positioned himself in third with a time of 1m33.422s, finishing just ahead of teammate Brad Binder and Franco Morbidelli (EG 0,0 Marc VDS), who recorded respective times of 1m33.453s and 1m33.495s.

Alex Marquez (EG 0,0 Marc VDS) slotted into sixth ahead of Takaaki Nakagami (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia), as the top 10 was rounded out by Dominique Aegerter (Kiefer Racing), Jesko Raffin (Garage Plus Interwetten) and Thomas Luthi (CarXpert Interwetten).

Aussie Remy Gardner (Tech 3 Racing) was an impressive 16th, setting him up nicely for a strong start in front a home crowd tomorrow.

With just the Supersport 300 support class left in today’s proceedings, preparations will begin for tomorrow’s race day the popular circuit.
