Australian favourite Jack Miller has labelled his fourth place result at yesterday’s French grand prix as possibly one of the most convincing races of his career in the MotoGP World Championship.

Despite earning an incredible race victory at Assen in 2016, Miller explained that his performance over the weekend in ‘normal’ conditions was most impressive as he remained competitive with the lead group, finishing less than a second off the podium behind Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha).

“For me though, this was a pretty big result,” the Pramac Racing Ducati rider said in his post-race column with Red Bull. “Could be better, could be worse – but all things considered, maybe this was the most convincing race of my career in MotoGP.

“There’s never going to be anything that feels like that win, but it was raining and guys crashed out. I was fourth this year in Argentina when I was on pole and pretty frustrated to be off the podium, but that was another weird race with that start and everything that went on.

“This one in France was different – [I was] less than a second off the podium, six seconds off the win on a dry and normal day – no random stuff happening – completely on merit. Maybe not the most exciting race for me, sure, but definitely one to be happy about.”

Miller now sits sixth in the championship standings – the highest he has ever been positioned in the MotoGP standings – as the series heads to Mugello in Italy on 3 June for the sixth round of the world tour.
