Australian Mike Jones has put in a spirited performance to claim third at Valencia’s stop of the RFME Spanish Speed Championship in the Superstock 1000 category on the weekend.

Qualifying in P12, Jones charged through the pack aboard his Team Speed Racing Kawasaki-backed ZX-10R, ultimately earning his second podium in his rookie year.

“I am very happy with the weekend,” said Jones. “We had some difficulties in training, but finally we got the bike ready for the race. I want to thank Team Speed Racing Kawasaki, Michelin, my personal sponsors and XXX Rated Race Suspension for making this possible.”

Team manager José Regaña praised the former Australian champion for his efforts, highlighting that his lap-times are on par with the leaders of the championship.

“Finally, the other joy of the day we owe to Mike Jones who has starred in a great comeback from 12th position to the third position,” Regaña explained. “Mike is getting used to the Spanish circuits and that is being felt since the last race at Motorland. The best thing of all is that Jones is riding in the times of the head of the race.”

RFME Spanish Speed Championship heads into a small break before returning on 20-21 October at Jerez.
