Next Gen Motorsports BMW’s Glenn Allerton has delivered his first race win in near three years following a rain-soaked thriller this morning at Phillip Island’s 2018 Michelin Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

It was race one victor Troy Bayliss (DesmoSport Ducati) and Troy Herfoss (Penrite Honda Racing) who led their share across the eight lap encounter, however it was Allerton who edged ahead when it counted across the finish.

Allerton last won at the opening round of the Australian championship in 2016 when he swept the round at Phillip Island, this morning’s victory also marking his first since rejoining Next Gen this season. He made his way to the front into MG on the final lap and ultimately edged Bayliss across the line by 0.017s.

Behind them in third, after leading half the race distance, was newly-crowned Australian champion Herfoss, 0.162s from Allerton as the trio crossed the line in formation. The fastest lap of the race was set by Allerton on the final lap at 1m45.942s in tricky conditions. Kawasaki-mounted privateer Yannis Shaw impressed in fourth, with newcomer Max Croker (Mladin Racing Suzuki) P5.

Supersport 300 update to follow race one.
