The Australian Superbike Championship will revert to a rule set based Superstock-style regulations in 2014, an announcement by International Entertainment Group (IEG) on Facebook today confirmed.

Following an official survey conducted by Motorcycling Australia, it has been announced that the current more heavily-modified Superbikes featured in the premier class will be scaled back next season.

Like Supersport and Superstock 600 were in 2013, the Superbike and Prostock category will become unified as of 2014.

“A survey conducted by Motorcycling Australia has drawn positive results for change,” managing director Yarrive Konsky stated. “The majority of competitors want a single 1000cc category to race in.

“IEG have maintained the original two classes since their inception, however they have fought hard the past three years for one class and finally after many attempts to bring about change they are going to implement change to ensure the championship becomes more accessible.

“Coupled with their new entry fee of $100, IEG will run their Superbike class based largely on the current Prostock rules. This will make the class more accessible to a wider license base. We also hope it lures back previous champions.

“The championship will commence on 11-12 April. The calendar will be released shortly.”
