Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) series promoter International Entertainment Group (IEG) has announced that the scheduled two-plus-four event at Phillip Island alongside the V8 Supercars on 22-24 November will be titled the Australasian Road Racing Championships (ARRC).

The event, which will be broadcast live on Channel 7, will feature Superbikes, Prostock and BEARS Formula 1/2 categories combined in a one-off single round.

It was recently confirmed that both Team Suzuki and Team Honda Racing would not be contesting the event (click here for details), which has been clouded by uncertainty in the lead-up. However, Next Gen Motorsports’ initial plans to sit out have been reversed.

2011 ASBK champion Glenn Allerton will line up alongside Victorian-based teammate Ben Nicolson for the event, the team planning to test a softer Pirelli tyre compound in the lead-up to the race weekend.

“I am looking forward to getting back out on track at Phillip Island,” Allerton said. “It is exciting to be racing alongside the V8 Supercars again it will definitely be one of best crowds we race in front of this year.

“We are going to Phillip Island a few days before hand to do some tyre testing with Pirelli, ideally we want to be able to use the softest tyre possible.

“Pirelli are fully aware of the abrasive track surface and of the potential issues. We raced on a hard compound tyre at MotoGP and at the last round of the QBE Australian Superbike Championship so we hope this will give us the chance to try a few softer options.

“It is good to get one more race meeting in before the end of the year and I think it will be a great show for the V8 Supercar fans.”

The ARRC event will feature practice, qualifying, Superpole and two 12-lap races across the weekend.

Rival promoter Australian Road & Track Rider Promotions (ARTRP) will next weekend host the inaugural Australasian Superbike Championship (ASC) at Sydney Motorsport Park (click here for details).
