Like Europe, Australia will feature a Junior Cup in 2014.

The Motorcycle Road Race Development Association (MRRDA) will introduce an Australian Junior Cup into the Summer Series in 2014, featuring Honda’s CBR500R.

Competitors between 15 to 21 years of age will be able to complete the season at a price of $20,000 for the year, which includes equipment, television exposure and a chance to contest the European Junior Cup.

Bikes will be prepared and maintained by Motologic – operators of Honda Australia’s factory-supported Superbike team – in what will be a fly in, fly out concept for competitors.

“The Honda CBR500R motorcycles will all be prepared in the same manner and be ready to race with the same tyres, fuel and oil,” Honda Australia national marketing manager Glyn Griffiths said.

“There are a lot of young talented riders out there. The only thing they need is a good opportunity and guidance to make it to the top.”

Rider’s that will participate in the 2014 MRRDA Australian Junior Cup will be provided with a full list of available spares together with their associated costs.

Alongside the race-prepared CBR500R, associated equipment and custom Ricondi leathers, entry includes training in media awareness, presentation skills, marketing, sponsorship, personalised fitness and nutrition programs, as well as racecraft.

With riders from Indonesia and the Philippines already signed up for the Australian Junior Cup, the 2014 MRRDA Series will be filmed and aired internationally.

The new-look MRRDA Summer Series will span six rounds between October 2014 and April 2015, featuring Superbike, Supersport, Moto3/125GP, Junior and Nipper categories alongside the Junior Cup.

It’s anticipated the series will host events in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia, with MRRDA chairman Paul Edwards confirming the series has “offered” to host the series as Motorcycling Australia’s official Australian Superbike Championship.

MA is yet to make an announcement confirming the uncertain future of the Australian Superbike Championship series (click here for details).
