The 2014 Australian Superbike Championship calendar will be scaled back to just three rounds this season, according to events posted on the series’ official Facebook Page.

CycleOnline.com.au on Monday revealed that series promoter International Entertainment Group (IEG) was moving to announce a reduced schedule (click here for details).

The revised calendar maintains three of the dates released mid-January in the most recent calendar announcement, commencing at Queensland Raceway in a standalone event on 5-6 April.

Round two will be the lone 2+4 event of the year alongside the V8 Supercars at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin on 21-22 June, before the season will conclude at Phillip Island in another standalone meeting on 19-20 July.

The calendar, to be reduced by 50 percent, will remove both previous clashes with the rival Australasian Superbike Championship (ASC) – formerly the Barbagallo Raceway in May and Queensland Raceway in August 2+4 events.

A final standalone event in Queensland scheduled for October has also been scrapped, believed to be due to the frequency in national road racing visiting the venue in 2014.

It’s unclear whether the one-off Broadford event for support categories in August will go ahead as originally planned.

IEG general manager Yarrive Konsky was unable to confirm the revisions, with an announcement regarding the calendar and updated series structure – including free entries – to be released on Thursday (tomorrow). The update will be the third major overhaul in the past two months.
