Tyco Suzuki team manager Philip Neill believes dual Australian Superbike Champion Josh Waters will finally display his true potential in the 2014 British Superbike season, back aboard his favoured GSX-R1000.

Waters won both his Australian titles with Suzuki and starred in the 2012 Suzuka 8 Hours event with Yoshimura, but failed to make any major impact in his first BSB season with Milwaukee Yamaha last year.

That lack of form saw the team dismiss Waters before the season’s end, however a number of promising showings aboard a privateer Kawasaki – combined with past Suzuki results – was enough to land Waters his ideal BSB contract at TAS Racing for 2014 in a Suzuki reunion.

Waters will partner experienced American John Hopkins in the team, replacing the combination of Aussie Josh Brookes and now World Supersport sensation PJ Jacobsen.

“In Josh Waters we have a rider who I’m confident has not yet shown anything like his best in BSB and our intention is to provide Josh with the tools and surroundings he needs to show everyone what he really can do,” Neill said.

“At TAS Racing we seem to have developed a bit of a trend for working with riders from the Southern Hemisphere. It wasn’t really intentional, but hopefully we are now familiar with the difficulties these riders can endure when living and racing 10,000 miles from home.

“This is perhaps the area we can best assist Josh in, although after winning multiple Australian championships riding Suzuki GSX-R machinery, he certainly knows how to ride the bike.”

Waters was also this week confirmed to be rejoining Yoshimura at the 2014 Suzuka 8 Hours in Japan (click here for details).
