Fresh from scoring a point in only his second MotoGP race at Brno on Sunday, Leon Camier will continue to cover for Nicky Hayden at Silverstone next weekend.

Camier’s latest confirmation from Drive M7 Aspar signals that no less than five British riders will be lining up for their home event, with Camier joining compatriots Cal Crutchlow, Bradley Smith, Scott Redding and Michael Laverty.

“Today we have confirmed that I’ll be riding at Silverstone for the Drive M7 Aspar Team, which is great news and a dream come true for me to ride in my home Grand Prix with such a great team,” Camier said on Monday, having just racked up another 36 laps with the Honda RCV1000R in the Brno test.

““I know the circuit well and I really like it, so hopefully we can take another big step forward there. Monday was a busy day with the test, which started off with a crash virtually as soon as I went out. I wasn’t sure what had happened but looking at the telemetry it seems I hit a bump that unsettled the bike and I went down.

“It was just bad luck and it cost us some time, but then I was able to get back out and make some good progress. I managed a 1m58.1, which was faster than I had gone all weekend, and a few more consistent laps in the 1m58s, so I am happy.

“The improvements today have shown us the way forward. We still needed the bike to be a bit less aggressive over the bumps to improve our speed in corner entry, but overall I am happy with the job we did. I still have to learn the bike and adapt my style to it, but I think we’re doing a great job.”

Camier has impressed across his first two races in the premier class, as he qualified 16th and 18th at Indianapolis and Brno, respectively, as well as scoring the final point on offer by coming home 15th in the Czech Grand Prix.

The last time as many home riders lined up for the British Grand Prix was in 1996 when James Haydon, Chris Walker, Eugene McManus, Jeremy McWilliams and Terry Rymer took to the track at Donington Park.

2006 MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden continues to recover from a wrist operation, attempting to make his return for the following race at Misano.

Nicky Hayden has posted a message on Facebook in order to thank fans for their support during his convalescence following surgery on his injured wrist. The 2006 World Champion hopes to be back in action at Misano on 14 September.

Since the wrist operation took place, the American has sat out of two Grands Prix at Indianapolis and Brno. With the Drive M7 Aspar team having confirmed that Leon Camier will be racing once again, Hayden sent out an update with a video message.

“I have seen my doctor this week,” Hayden explains. “He examined my wrist and was able to see the movement in the joint especially, to see how everything was looking inside. I am pretty happy with what he is saying.

“I am not 100% yet and am going to miss at least one more race, which I don’t like because I love Silverstone. As soon as I first went there, I fell in love with the place. I even had the fastest lap there a few years ago (in 2011) and was the first Ducati home every time…but it looks like I will get the green like to come back healthy and have some fun at Misano or Aragon.

“In the meantime, I want to thank my supporters for all of your support. At Indy I was able to interact with a lot of people and even during the Brno weekend a lot of people were tweeting me with photos of my gear and merchandise; it was kind of cool to see everybody sticking behind me, even though I wasn’t at the track!

“I’m looking forward to coming back soon. Again, thanks to you guys and especially to my team: everybody at Aspar, Drive M7 and Honda. I’ll catch you down the road and hopefully soon we’ll be back on track! Adios!”

During Hayden’s absence, replacement rider Camier has continued to improve and scored his first MotoGP™ World Championship point by finishing 15th at Brno.
