Formula Xtreme king Kevin Curtain will make a shock return to racing at next month’s final round of the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship on board a Team Trinder Aprilia.

Curtain quit the Yamaha Racing Team and racing altogether following Wakefield Park’s opening round in March, but has now confirmed that he will make a comeback to the sport in Sydney on 21-23 November.

“I’m actually really looking forward to it,” Curtain said. “This will be the third brand I have ridden for the Trinder team; we have had a long relationship that stems back to 2001.

“The Aprilia is very nice to ride, it turns and stops on a dime – kind of like a BMX bike on steroids. We have only put about 10 laps together due to weather, but I know it will be impressive at speed.

“We hope to get a couple of clear days on it before the meeting so we can taylor it to suit me, but so far, all very good.”

Steve Trinder welcomed Curtain back into the team, contesting both the premier Superbike category as well as the Formula Oz ranks – both bikes for sale at the close of the weekend.

“We are looking forward to seeing Kev on this bike as much as any race fan would,” Trinder said. “Even the few laps he has cut on it looked impressive; he really is the master, it was like watching art on wheels.

“There is no pressure at all on him. This is the toughest field this championship has seen for many years, he’s been out of the seat for a while, but he will do what he does best, ride the bike to its full potential.”

The news comes just weeks after Yamaha Racing Team manager John Redding listed Curtain as a potential development rider on board the highly-anticipated 2015 model YZF-R1.
